Pride is a very important thing, but obviously not only for me, but for thousands and thousands of people, whether they're allies or apart of the community. But it is even more important to know why Pride is so important and how it started. It started at Stonewall in 1969, a gay bar during a time of unbelievable hate and discrimination, when police would constantly raid these bars to arrest LGBTQ+ people, simply because they were LGBTQ. But because of a beautiful, strong, black transgendered woman named Marsha P. Johnson, and those who stood by her. The first Pride ever was a riot at Stonewall and is what led us down a colorful path and new love and acceptance and understanding, the police to stop these needless raid, and for Pride to became a more accepting thing, for Pride to be held every June in remembrance and honor of those who fought for our LGBT rights and for us to stand up for those in the future.
